TaylorMade M5 Tour Driver

Who’s It For?

TaylorMade’s M5 and M6 lineup includes Speed Injected Twist Face technology, which takes the best of the Twist Face technology from the M3 and M4 series and combines it with explosive ball speed technology. The M5 Tour driver features all of the new innovations also found in the M5 but with a smaller clubhead at 435cc. Players in search of a more compact profile at address, increased workability, or a lower spin rate should consider the M5 Tour driver. However, golfers seeking maximum customization and a larger clubhead profile will want to look at the M5 driver.

The Tech Story

TaylorMade has repeatedly satisfied the demand for a sub-460cc version of its latest driver models over the years, and that did not change in 2019. The M5 Tour driver features the same Speed Injected Twist Face technology as the M5 driver, but in a smaller clubhead. Twist Face, originally introduced in the M3 and M4 drivers, improves distance and forgiveness on off-center strikes thanks to a slight opening of the face on the toe and a slight closing of the face on the heel. New in the M5 Tour driver is the Speed Injected portion of Speed Injected Twist Face technology. Each M5 and M5 Tour driver has been designed with a thinner, more flexible face that actually produces a higher COR than the USGA and R&A limits before going through a tuning process in which they are adjusted for conformity and resin is injected for maximum speed. Two new tuning ports, located on the bottom corners of the clubface, and a proprietary algorithm are used to ensure the perfect amount of resin is injected to deliver the highest possible ball speed. The sweet spot has also been enlarged by 66 percent compared to the previous models thanks to a 20 percent thinner clubface. TaylorMade’s Inverted T-Track adjustability options are also included in the sole of the M5 Tour driver. This provides the golfer with 1,770 unique settings through two, 10-gram movable weights that can be adjusted for heel to toe control and front to back CG control. These settings produce a customizable window of one degree of launch, 600 revolutions per minute of spin and 25 yards of left-to-right adjustability. Plus, the 2-degree loft sleeve provides further customization of loft, lie angle, and face angle. With the M5 Tour driver, all of this technology is packed into a 435cc clubhead that naturally promotes a farther-forward CG location to produce lower spin and more workability than the standard M5’s 460cc clubhead.
