Sunday Swing | Ludvig Åberg's WITB at Genesis Invitational

The Sunday Swing
2/16/2025
Ludvig Aberg is becoming a household name on the PGA Tour very quickly. At just 25 years old, he continues to show signs of a great champion – elite ball-striking, poise in big moments, and now two PGA Tour victories.
A few weeks ago at the Farmers Insurance Open, Aberg held the 36-hole lead before falling ill on Friday evening. He toughed it out the rest of the way but, ultimately, was unable to stay in contention. This week, he was given an opportunity for redemption at the Genesis Open, which was relocated from Los Angeles back to San Diego and the Torrey Pines South Course.
Aberg’s quest for redemption began on a cold, rainy, and windy day at Torrey Pines. Measuring over 7,600 yards with some of the thickest rough you’ll see, the players were in for a true test. He was able to hang in on Thursday and post a 2-over 74, which was actually the scoring average for the first round. On Friday, meanwhile, the weather cooperated and Aberg went to work, posting a 6-under 66 to get right back into contention.
A 2-under round of 70 on Saturday, highlighted by an ace at the par-3 third hole, put Aberg at 6-under-par and in position to compete for the title, just two back of the lead.
During the final round, Aberg rose to the occasion. A clutch par save at the difficult 12th propelled the Swede to a blistering finish where he would birdie four of the last six holes, highlighted by a 2-putt birdie at the 18th from 68 feet to claim the trophy.
WITB - Ludvig Aberg
Driver: Titleist GT2 (9 degrees, D4 SureFit setting)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 6 X
Titleist staff member Ludvig Aberg picked up his second PGA Tour title at the Genesis Invitational on Sunday at Torrey Pines. One of the most prolific drivers of the golf ball on Tour already, Aberg recently put Titleist’s new GT2 driver in the bag, playing a 9-degree head, and was impressive off the tee on his way to victory this week, finishing fourth in strokes gained: off the tee. Interestingly, Aberg actually switched back to a Titleist TSR2 driver prior to the final round that clearly helped him jump to the top of the leaderboard.
Fairway Woods: TaylorMade Stealth 2 (15 degrees, 18 degrees)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 8 X (15 Degree), Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 9 X (18 Degree)
Despite the Titleist club deal, Aberg still carries two TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods. One of them is a 15 degree 3-wood, and the other a 21 degree 7-wood. High-lofted woods and hybrids, such as 7-woods, have become increasingly popular throughout the past few years, and such is true for PGA Tour members as well. The added loft allows a player like Aberg to attack par-5s from 240+ yards in the fairway and get them to land like irons on the green. Notably, the 7-wood is the club he hit into the 18th green on Sunday to close out the tournament.
Irons: Titleist T100 (4-PW)
Shafts: KBS Tour 130 X
Aberg plays just one type of iron throughout his bag, and the T100s have treated him well. Also known as a great ball striker, Aberg displayed it this week finishing 4th in strokes gained: approach. The T100 irons have served as the most popular iron on tour for years, and performances like this are why.
Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (50-08F, 54-10S, 60-08M)
Shafts: KBS Tour 130 X
Like his irons, Aberg keeps it simple with his wedges. His strong wedge game was on display this week, finishing 15th in strokes gained: around the green. Aberg hit many great shots around the green this week, highlighted by a tough bunker shot on the 12th hole during the final round to save a crucial par.
Odyssey putters have always been popular on the PGA Tour, and Aberg is among the players who games one. Of note, the White Hot Versa No. 1 model is several years old, but the Versa technology has made a resurgence in recent years. The sharp contrast of black and white stripes have aided in alignment for many players, most notably in the Jailbird model. Aberg made a number of clutch putts coming down the stretch on Sunday, none more than the six-footer that earned him the victory on the 72nd hole.
