Welcome back to another edition of The Sunday Swing. While the PGA Tour was off this week, many of the game’s most prominent stars teed it up at the Amgen Irish Open, a DP World Tour event at The K Club.

Rory McIlroy was already having a pretty sweet 2025 prior to the Irish Open. In addition to the historic victory at The Masters to accomplish the career Grand Slam, McIlroy also won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship on the PGA Tour earlier in the season.

Winless since that Masters victory, McIlroy’s homecoming to the Irish Open offered an opportunity to re-enter the winner’s circle once again. And he took full advantage – but not without a little drama.

On the par-5 72nd hole, McIlroy trailed by two shots, needing an eagle to tie Swede Joakim Lagergren at 17-under par. From 28 feet, McIlroy holed the putt, sending the crowd into a frenzy and forcing a playoff with Lagergren.

The pair teed it up at the final hole again, matching with birdies twice. On the third playoff hole, Lagergren’s second shot found the water, allowing McIlroy to win the tournament with a two-putt, adding another prestigious trophy to his collection from 2025.

Winner's Bag | Rory McIlroy

TaylorMade staffer Rory McIlroy added another significant win to his resume at the Irish Open. The hometown crowd offered relentless support all week long, and McIlroy responded with a dramatic victory that included a 28-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff that he would eventually win. McIlroy’s setup is largely the same as his historic Masters win, but with one update to his wedges.

Driver: TaylorMade Qi10 (9 degrees @8.25)

Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 6 X (45 inches)

McIlroy is one of the best drivers of the ball in the history of the sport, and that certainly helped him at The K Club. He finished the week top five in driving distance and positioned himself off the tee well throughout the playoff to make birdies on the 18th hole.

Fairway Woods: TaylorMade Qi10 (15 degrees, 18 degrees)

Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 8 X (15 Degree,) Fujikura Ventus Black 9 X (18 Degree)

Like many golfers, McIlroy’s fairway woods serve as an extension of his driver to use on tighter, position-heavy tee shots, so it’s not a surprise to see the clubhead and shaft combination match his driver.

Irons: TaylorMade P760 (4), TaylorMade Rors Proto (5-9)

Shaft: Project X 7.0 (4-9)

In addition to his off-the-tee prowess, McIlroy has long been one of the best iron players in the world. After a tough first round, McIlroy finished top five in greens in regulation each of the final three rounds to propel himself up the leaderboard.

Wedges: TaylorMade MG5 (46-09SB, 50-09SB, 54-11SB, 60-08LB)

Shafts: Project X 6.5 (46-54), Project X 6.5 Wedge (60)

The wedges are the one area of the bag where McIlroy has made a change since his Masters victory, upgrading to the new TaylorMade Milled Grind 5 model. Of note, McIlroy was 100% on scrambling opportunities in the second and third round at the Irish Open.

Putter: TaylorMade Spider Tour X

Grip: SuperStroke Zenergy Pistol Tour

McIlroy’s Spider Tour X putter features a unique torched finish custom to his preferences. It’s a model he’s used for some time, and likely won’t be leaving the bag anytime soon. Of course, the shot of the tournament was hit with this putter – the 28-foot eagle on the final hole of regulation to force the playoff.
