Sunday Swing | Scottie Scheffler & Maja Stark's Winning WITBs

Just a couple weeks before the season's third major, the PGA Tour’s best gathered at Jack Nicklaus’ famed Muirfield Village for the seventh signature event of the season, The Memorial Tournament. Meanwhile, the world’s best women golfers gathered at Erin Hills for the US Women’s Open.
Scheffler Tallies Another Victory at The Memorial
Defending champion and No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has found his groove midway through the season, picking up two wins in his last three starts, including his third major title at the PGA Championship. The last player to win the Memorial back to back was none other than Tiger Woods, when he win it three consecutive years at the beginning of his esteemed career. A win would put Scheffer in the esteemed group with Woods and other legends as multiple-time winners of this event.
Scheffler got out to a solid start, battling wind and rain to fire a pair of 2-under 70s. The 4-under number was comfortable, but the scorching hot Ben Griffin stood alone at the top of the leaderboard. Griffin was the champ at last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge and had carried that momentum into the opening stages of The Memorial.
The duo battled it out on Saturday in high winds, chased by a rather small group of players who had played well enough to be in red figures. As Scheffler and Griffin raced to the finish, it was Sepp Straka who played the round of the day. Coming into the third round at 4-over, Straka fired a bogey-free 66 and surged up the leaderboard. Scheffler was treading water for much of the round like most players, but finished in a flurry after making birdies on four of his final five holes to post -8 and take the 54-hole lead by one over Griffin.
Sunday’s round was more of the same from the final pairing, with Scheffler and Griffin within a shot or two for the majority of the round. It wasn’t until late in the back nine that Griffin faltered after a tough double bogey on the 17th hole. Scheffler took the tee on the 18th with a 4-shot lead, and was able to finish with a 2-putt par from long range. The victory marks his third of the season, all coming in his last four starts. Meanwhile, Griffin’s strong play continued with a solo second finish, as he inches his way closer to being a Ryder Cup consideration for the Americans.
Winner’s Bag - Scottie Scheffler
TaylorMade staffer and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler brought his usual dominant tee to green game to Muirfield Village. The result was a four-shot victory, his third in a one month span. Unsurprisingly, Scheffler’s winning setup was the same at The Memorial as it was for the PGA Championship.

Driver: TaylorMade Qi10
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 7 X
Off the tee, Scottie is still gaming the TaylorMade Qi10 driver (8 degrees) with a Fujikura Ventus Black 7X shaft. It was once again a weapon for him during the week, helping him gain 3.933 strokes off the tee, good for second in the field.
Fairway Woods: TaylorMade Qi10 (15 Degree), TaylorMade Qi35 (21 Degree)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 8 X (15 Degree), Fujikura Ventus Black 9 X (21 Degree)
Scheffler also carries a TaylorMade Qi10 3-wood (15 degrees) with the Ventus Black 8X, aligning with the setup of his driver. One tweak he makes for golf courses with longer, thicker rough is adding his TaylorMade Qi35 7-wood in the bag in place of one of his utility irons. The Qi35 7-wood offers him better playability from the rough and a higher launch for long approach shots. Scheffler had the 7-wood in the bag for both his win at the PGA Championship and this win at The Memorial.
Irons: Srixon ZU85 (4), TaylorMade P7TW (5-PW)
Shafts: Nippon N.S. Pro Modus 3 Hybrid Prototype 10 X (3), True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
Scheffler’s iron play once again powered his success as it usually does. He gained 7.2 strokes on the field in approach, good for No. 2 in the field for the week. His irons have remained the same for some time now, as the TaylorMade P7TWs (5-PW) and Srixon ZU85 4-iron, all built with Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts, continue to deliver.
Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM8 (50-12F, 56-14F), Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (60-06K)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
Scheffler’s wedge game was also stellar this week. He’s always been crafty around the greens and that skill proved valuable this week. He finished third in strokes gained around the greens using his set of Titleist vokey wedges that includes two SM8 models (50-degree F grind and 56-degree F grind) and an SM10 60-degree that features the new Low-Bounce K Grind.
Putter: TaylorMade Spider Tour X
Grip: Golf Pride Pro Only
The only area where Scheffler did not deliver elite results this week was putting, where he actually lost a fraction of a stroke to the field. Ultimately, however, he was able to roll in plenty of key putts on Sunday to maintain his lead all day over Griffin and comfortably secure the win.
Maja Stark Triumphs at US Women’s Open
The best women golfers in the world took center stage this weekend at Erin Hills for the US Women’s Open. Rolling hills, over 130 bunkers, and thick fescue presented distinct challenges for the competitors. Similar to other US Opens, limiting mistakes was as important as converting birdie chances, and Maja Stark from Sweden did both brilliantly.
Reminiscent of another Swedish legend in Annika Sorenstam, Stark remained steady all week. She made no worse than a bogey throughout the 72 holes and never carded a round worse than even par for the week. Stark entered the final round holding a one-shot lead, trailed closely by several chasers – among them, world No. 1 Nelly Korda. Nonetheless, Stark maintained control the whole day.
Just as Korda began to make her charge on Sunday’s back nine, Stark righted the ship. A bogey by Korda on No. 13 was quickly followed by a birdie on No. 14 by Stark, inflating the lead to three that proved to be enough.
It’s the first major championship win for Stark, who became the first European to win the US Women’s Open since Sorenstam in 2006.
Winner's Bag - Maja Stark
Driver: PING G430 Max 10K (9 degrees @9.5)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Blue 5 S (45.5 inches, tipped .5)
Stark games the PING G430 Max 10K Driver, opting for the most forgiving driver within the PING family. She was plenty accurate during the U.S. Open, hitting 42 of 55 fairways, and also plenty long, averaging 262.9 off the tee, which was 16th best in the field. That combination allowed Stark to gain 0.61 strokes on the field off the tee, which was 20th best among all players.
3-wood: PING G430 Max (15 degrees @ 15.5)
Shaft: Graphite Design Tour AD-XC 6 S
Moving to the fairway wood section of her bag, when Maja plays just a single PING G430 Max 3-wood at 15.5 degrees. Much like her driver, Stark opts for the maximum forgiveness with her fairway wood, though notably doesn't go with a current generation G440, but rather that prior generation G430. This club provided her another option off the tee when she needed to hit a specific distance or shot shape, but also an option to attack long par 5's in 2 with.
Hybrid: PING G430 (22 degrees @21)
Shaft: Ping Tour Chrome 2.0 85 Stiff
In between her Fairway Wood and Irons, Stark fills that gap with a PING G430 Hybrid. Playing it at 21 degrees, this hybrid gives Stark plenty of versatility within the long game section of her bag. For longer par 3's and even some longer approaches, the forgiveness, and ease of launch of the G430 hybrid provides a great option for Stark and contributed to her sensational approach play during her U.S. Open win.
Irons: PING Blueprint S (4-PW)
Shafts: Ping AWT Stiff
Stark's Irons were one of the stars of her win at Erin Hills. The U.S. Open is always the toughest test in golf, and typically requires precision in all areas of your game, but especially in your approach. That's where Stark really separated herself from the pack. She hit 54 of the 72 greens in regulation, which was 11 percent better than the field average. She also gained 1.89 strokes on her approach, which ranked 3rd among all players.
Wedges: PING S159 (50-S, 540S), Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks (58-04L)
Shafts: Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 105 Wedge
For her wedges, Stark combos a pair of PING s159 wedges with a Vokey WedgeWorks lob wedge. She goes with the S grind for both her Gap and Sand Wedges, which gives her a couple great options for full shots and greenside versatility. Her Vokey L Grind gives her a low bounce option, who's leading edge sits close to the ground and works well for tight or firm lies. Her wedges were big contributors in her approach game, and were quite strong around the greens too, as she ranked 28th among all players in Strokes Gained Short Game.
Putter: PING Anser 2
Along with her irons, Stark's Anser 2 Putter was one of the biggest contributors to her victory at Erin Hills. She averaged 1.76 putts per hole for the tourament, which was 5th best among all players, and gained 1.6 strokes on the putting surface, which also ranked 5th best.
