Sunday Swing | Scottie Scheffler's Open Championship WITB

Welcome back to another edition of the Sunday Swing presented by 2nd Swing Golf. This week marked the playing of the final major of the season, The Open Championship from Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
World #1 Scottie Scheffler has already claimed 3 major titles in his career, The Masters twice and the PGA Championship earlier this year. Now he arrived in Northern Ireland with the hope of claiming his 4th, as well as the 3rd leg of the career grand slam. Starting on Thursday, Scottie looked completely in control. Scheffler carded a 3-under 68 in the opening round, before catching fire on Friday. He would make 8 birdies and just one bogey, on his way to a 7-under 64 and cruise to the top of the leaderboard. Saturday was more of the same for Scheffler, seemingly going into cruise control. Scottie played the correct shots on every hole, playing a bogey free 4-under round of 67. His dominant performance opened up a 4-shot lead through 54 holes. Scheffler seemed unbeatable with all facets of his game clicking, including the sometimes shaky putter.
Sunday was more of the same from the world #1. He began his final round by hitting his approach shot on the 1st hole to within 2 feet, setting up a tap-in birdie. Midway through the opening nine, his lead had grown to 7 after making birdies on 3 of the first 5 holes. His only hiccup of the round came at the 9th, where he made a double bogey. Scottie bounced back immediately with 2 birdies in the next 5 holes, cementing his position at the top. He capped off his dominant performance by making pars on the final 6 holes as he coasted to a 4 shot victory. The title marks his 4th major, as well as his 4th win on the season- two of which being majors. Scottie will have his first chance to complete the career grand slam at next year’s U.S. Open Championship. He has now held the position of world #1 for over 100 weeks, and has had multiple victories in 4 consecutive seasons. Scottie will look to win the FedEx Cup playoffs in back to back years in a few short weeks.
Winner's Bag | Scottie Scheffler
World #1 and Taylormade staffer Scottie Scheffler claimed his 4th major title since 2022 at the 153 Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. Scheffler rarely makes equipment changes, and this week was no different with only one club being different in comparison to his setup when he won the PGA Championship back in May.

Driver: TaylorMade Qi10
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 7 X
Off the tee, Scottie plays the Taylormade Qi10 (8 degrees) with a Ventus Black 7 X. Like other top players including Rory McIlroy, Scottie prefers the Qi10 over Taylormade’s newest model- the Qi35. Scottie is typically a strong player off the tee, but surprisingly only gained 0.07 strokes on the field off the tee.
3-Wood: TaylorMade Qi10
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black 8 X
He carried just one fairway wood this week, as compared to the PGA when he carried both a 3-wood and a 7-wood. His 3-wood matches his driver, in the Qi10 (15 degrees) with a Ventus Black 8 X.
Irons: Srixon ZU85 (3,4), TaylorMade P7TW (5-PW)
Shafts: Nippon N.S. Pro Modus 3 Hybrid Prototype 10 X (3), True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
Scottie’s iron play was elite this week, as it usually is. He finished 1st in strokes gained: approach and gained more than a stroke on every player in the tournament besides Haotong Li in his approach game. Scheffler swapped out his 7-wood for his old trusty Srixon ZU85 3-Iron while the Srixon ZXU85 4-Iron remained in the bag. The remainder of the set is comprised of Taylormade P7TW’s (5-PW). Scheffler’s 3-iron contains a Modus 3 Hybrid Prototype shaft, while the 4-PW have the popular Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100’s.
Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design SM8 (50-12F, 56-14F), Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (60-06K)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
Around the greens, Scottie carries three wedges. His gap and sand wedge (50 and 56 degrees) are Vokey Design SM8’s, which are now two generations old. His lob wedge (60 degrees), is a Vokey Design WedgeWorks. All three wedges are played with the Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shaft.
Putter: TaylorMade Spider Tour X
Grip: Golf Pride Pro Only
The big key for Scottie this week was the putter. After struggling on the greens in Scotland a week ago, Scottie holed what seemed like everything inside 20-feet this week. His Taylormade Spider Tour X carried him to a 4-shot victory, and a 2nd place finish in strokes gained: putting.
